What on earth is a "monthly spread"? Well, if you are a complete beginner to the whole process of bullet journaling then I really suggest watching this YouTube video by the creator himself, Ryder Carroll [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fm15cmYU0IM] to give yourself a quick overview before diving in. Basically, a monthly spread is a breakdown of the events and tasks which you hope to achieve for the particular month. You can also use it to record memories that have happened that month, as a way of remembering them in the future.
I will show some examples of the layouts which I have used in previous months. You will notice that for the most part, they are all very unique in their own ways and that is what is so great about this method. It gives you a great deal of flexibility to try new things and see what works the best for you.
As you can see above, I have tried many different layouts from a small calendar with lots of space for tasks, events and memories to a full page calendar (mainly for the aesthetic value) with a separate page for tasks and events.
In addition to the way you layout a page, there are design decisions to take into consideration. The original method was designed to make this process as minimal as possible but as people jump on the bandwagon, it becomes almost a competition to see who can create the most pleasing looking spreads.
Many people who are very dedicated to doing this, often refer to their designs as 'themes for the month', in that they stick to a particular colour choice for every spread which they create that month. These themes can vary from a simple colour scheme to one featuring a specific shape, animal, tv show or holiday occuring that month (e.g. Valentine's Day or Christmas).
My best advice would be to do whatever you feel comfortable with and make your spreads as minimal or as aesthetic looking as you like. There are many sources of inspiration out there on the world wide web from YouTube where you can watch "plan with me" videos (Yes, people actually film themselves designing their monthly layouts so you can follow along or be inspired!) to Pinterest boards filled with ideas.
I hope I have given you a better understanding, or maybe even your first encounter, of what a monthly spread is in the world of bullet journaling. I am by no means an expert in this area, just a girl who was inspired by what she saw and decided to hop on the trend.
If you have any comments or suggestions, please leave them over on my Instagram page and don't forget to tag me in any of your bullet journaling posts so that I can check them out!
