Life Updates

2nd April 2020

I'm back and ready to beg for your forgiveness for my extended hiatus! It was very unintentional and I can only hope that you guys understand and are ready to continue where I left off last January.

But first, what has been happening in my life and the world in general...

Well to begin with, I started to suffer from some health issues, the main one being seizure-like episodes that really turned my life upside down. The first big change was my driving licence being revoked resulting in a great loss of my independence. I know for some people this does not sound like that big of a deal, but for me it was devastating and had quite a significant impact on my mental health.

Imagine being told one day that your freedom to go wherever you want, whenever you want, is being taken away from you... I had become so accustomed to taking myself to work, to doing the weekly shop and to going on random adventures in the car with Joseph and Jasper, that when I now had to rely on my lovely mum to take on those tasks, it was definitely not the same.

The neurological investigations continued throughout January to March where I spent a week in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. I was also prescribed medication during this time to try and get these episodes under better control. But to cut a long (mainly due to NHS wait times which I fully appreciate are unavoidable) and boring story short, I am NOT epileptic and the cause of the "seizures" = STRESS [facepalm 🤦].

Thankfully, with some reading on the subject (Non-epileptic attack disorder, if any of you are interested!) and some helpful lifestyle changes, I have not experienced any "attacks" since August 2019, have stopped my non-helpful medication and am awaiting the return of my driving licence.

The next big life update is that I'M PREGNANT! Well, not for much longer as I am due to give birth on the 5th May 2020 so less than 5 weeks to go when I am writing this blog post (eek!). Thankfully, despite all the stuff going on behind the scenes, bump and myself are doing well and there are no concerns or complications arising from my medical history. Joseph is very much over-the-moon to be becoming a dad again (Don't judge, Jasper is very much our first-born child 😊) and it appears we are as prepared as much as we can be at this point. [more posts to come on my pregnancy and birth journey as well as plenty of adorable pictures of our new arrival!]

My third topic is probably of no surprise to anyone that has not been living under a rock for the past few months and is that of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). I have been doing my best not to let this make me feel all doom and gloom but the reality is that the birth of my little one will be very much impacted by this situation. My maternity leave only started on the 27th March so that was a great help in keeping my spirits up despite the high risks I was taking to continue to care for the vulnerable elderly residents. I am incredibly thankful for the individuals who are still working away amongst these difficult circumstances, not just my fellow care workers but everyone who plays an important role in keeping this country running. Well, I am not the BBC news or anything so I will end by simply saying that I hope everyone is staying safe and doing as they should be and that this nightmare ends really soon.

Thank you for reading my second of a more regular schedule of blog posts! If you have any comments or suggestions for posts you would like to see then please leave them over on my Instagram update for this particular blog post.
